Compactness Effects on Partisan Outcomes in Redistricting
This was a presentation I gave at the College of Physical and Mathematical Sciences Research Conference. In the study I presented on, I performed data cleaning, analysis, visualization and presentation. Voter data is given by the state at a precinct level, and population data is given by the Census Bureau in blocks and tracts. It was then my job to run an algorithm to aggregate the census data into a precinct level so that we could run our analysis for redistricting. I also helped with the algorithm design and analysis to identify any connections between compactness and political fairness metrics. I performed scholarly research on compactness to find any studies that have already been performed in this area. I contributed to writing the final paper, and gave this 10-minute presentation to colleagues and judges. See below for the recording of my presentation.
